We are an independent, neutral, confidential and informal office at NC State to assist students and be a personal guide for conflict management, prevention and resolution. We advocate for fair processes, working to empower the student to successfully navigate NC State to address challenges and identify resources.
Meet the Student Ombuds
Mike Giancola is an experienced college administrator who has dedicated his professional career to working with students in a variety of administrative, teaching, advising, and mentoring roles. His career spans over 25 years at several colleges and universities including serving in multiple leadership roles at NC State since 1998.
Mike’s academic background is in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Educational Administration and Student Personnel. His areas of interest include leadership, civic engagement, social responsibility, organizational development, international development and non-profit management.
He has extensive experience in bringing diverse people and communities together around shared goals having developed partnerships locally and around the world focused on hunger policy, affordable housing, water quality and sanitation, education, healthcare, civil rights and youth empowerment.
Mike enjoys traveling and community service and has worked and visited over 25 countries. He is active in the community serving on several non-profit boards and enjoys coaching youth sports in his community.
